Nature’s Playground

The bent and broken tree branches reminded me of a tall slide (the kind I was always afraid my kids would fall from when they were little)- and the whole scene looked like somewhere I would have loved to play when I was a little girl. This was taken on a walk in Watson Woods last weekend. The trees have just started to change color here- it’s a race to see if the temperatures drop before the leaves all fall!

Crazy Beautiful

The light, the clouds, the sky! We had a crazy beautiful sunset last night!

It was the golden light that we noticed first. Lonnie was calling me to come out just as I was running around the house looking for my camera (I know, I know I should always keep it one place, but I had been on the phone with Matt and taking pumpkin photos at the same time- I can’t multi-task). When I found it, I ran (hobbled fast) outside and saw the CLOUDS! There was one of our magnificent red sunsets going on behind the house, but it was the golden clouds out front that took my breath away!

Nothing beats Arizona’s Big Sky (sorry, Montana!)!

A Dog on the Path

There is a really nice area in Oak Creek Canyon that we are usually never able to get into, but, on our way to Flagstaff two weeks ago, we were thrilled to see that traffic was not backed up along the road and that there were parking spaces available in the lot. We didn’t have a lot of time, but we were able to walk along the path for about a half hour or so. The leaves were just beginning to turn, and the overcast skies certainly contributed to the feeling that autumn had arrived.

After we crossed a walking bridge, we encountered a cute dog and his family, and I thought his white and black coat made a nice contrast to the orange, brown, and green fall scene.

And just because I can, here is the same photo with some painterly effects added.

Something’s Coming

Could be?
Who knows?
There’s something due any day
I will know, right away
Soon as it shows
It may come cannonballing down through the sky
Gleam in its eye
Bright as rose
Who knows?
It’s only just out of reach
Down the block, on the beach
Under a tree
I got a feeling there’s a miracle due
Gonna come true, comin’ to me

– from West Side Story

I used to know all the songs from West Side Story by heart as a young teenager, so I guess it’s no surprise that this is the song that popped in my head when I spotted this gigantic cloud looming over the hills as we made our way into Augie’s restaurant last weekend.

Something’s comin’, something good
If I can wait
Something’s comin’
I don’t know what it is
But it is gonna be great!

Monolith

Last week I had an appointment in Flagstaff, so we decided to take the Oak Creek Canyon scenic route. Of course, we had to stop at the Bell Rock and the Courthouse parking areas to visit some of our favorite rock formations! It had been raining, so the red in the rocks was extra saturated. But, for some reason, I converted this image of the Courthouse to black and white, which I thought made a nice contrast with the clouds.
