A little impression of our sunset view last night- smoke and pink sky. Multiple exposure layered with a view of the moon from the other direction and an added texture. The fire continues to grow as I write this. We are far enough away to feel safe, but it is scary how fast it is growing.
When I posted this to Instagram, I got to use the hashtag #lovelydeadcrap for the first time- woot!
This row of trees seems to stand guard at the gap in the mountains at the nature center. In browsing through other photos of this area, I noticed everyone seems to take a photo of these same trees. They are somewhat ragtag and gawky looking, but there is just something about them!
At sunset, everything seemed to have a rosy glow.
I did another edit in black and white, but couldn’t seem to get the effect I wanted. Then I added a teal color layer and a texture, which gives it a snowy look. Just playing!
Another shimmer shot- with a very different edit!
A view of beautiful late afternoon light shimmering on the trees caught my eye during our stay at Oak Creek Canyon. Somehow the straight out of camera image didn’t match my memory, so I had fun turning this shot into a little photo art piece that looks nothing like what I saw, but is interesting in its own right.
As this leaf skittered around on the glass tabletop in the fall breeze, I took several photos with the plain glass as backdrop. But there was something about the juxtaposition of the leaf, its shadow, and the tabletop pattern that caught my eye. I added some textures and tones in Photoshop to create this little piece of photo art.

I love sunflowers no matter what the stage of their life cycle. For me, there is beauty in their decay.
Here is another version of the Ferry Building- a somewhat grungy black and white with a bit of texture added for an old-timey look.
Here is the third (and final) version of my windmill photo (see Adventures in Compositing and Adventures in Compositing, part 2), which I used for this month’s photo club. It is a composite of the windmill and Granite Mountain- with lots of layers in Photoshop, including the use of Topaz Glow and Texture Effects and On 1 software. Fun to do!

Another apache plume for today- I love their inherent messiness!
Purple thistles abound in our area! We have a lot of weeds and native plants in the strips along the roads and sidewalks and in fields near our house, and this time of year is great for finding them in bloom. And every year I photograph thistles.
I added textures to these thistle photos and then took them into On1 for frames, stepping outside the box a bit when I chose these cool emulsion borders.
