Morning Blue Hour

I’ve always loved blue and have recently become a big fan of the hour before the sun comes up, when the sky and clouds are streaked with shades of blue.

Here are some driveway and across the street shots from yesterday.

If you look closely, you’ll see a layer of fog between the far and near hills- I’m guessing over Watson Lake.

Homescape

Many of my favorite photos these days are taken right from the driveway or across the street. It is usually cloud patterns or streaks of light on the hills that bring me outside with my camera. I find that by using intentional camera movement or in camera multiple exposures, I can create an image that expresses the way I see the scene in front of me rather than a literal depiction. Usually only a small amount of post-processing is needed, which is unusual for me!

This one is a combination of in an camera multiple exposure combined with photoshop layers. It was taken in the blue hour right before dawn, when the lights from the shopping mall across town were still visible.

This is an early morning view from our driveway of the hills to the southeast of us. I posted the original photo on Facebook last week, but had fun playing with it yesterday, using two filters from Topaz Impression plus an added texture.

Blue Hills and Cactus

When we visited the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson, the hills in the distance looked like layers of tissue paper.
