Day 192- Forty-one!

f/2.2, 1/320, ISO 160, 50mm

Happy 41st anniversary to us! There is no listing for forty-one in the traditional wedding anniversary gift list (have to wait for forty-five- sapphire), but the modern list says LAND is for forty-one. I personally think that is an excellent gift idea- perhaps in a prime real estate area, preferably with a gorgeous house sitting on it! Anyone? Anyone?

But Lonnie had the BEST idea for number forty-one- LENS!

This photo was taken with my BRAND NEW Nikkor 50mm 1.4 Lens!!!!!!!!!!   I have been lusting after this lens for so long- and was totally taken aback when he surprised me with it this morning.  We don’t normally do anniversary presents (maybe flowers), so I was shocked! And thrilled!!!  I can’t wait to play with it more.

I broke a rule with this photo- a minor (to me) limb chop- and also didn’t have enough distance between subject and background to get great bokeh.  But the sprinklers were on, and the sun was starting to hit this area, so we had a time crunch.  But all in all, it’s a decent anniversary photo.

Day 190- Eucalyptus

I gathered these seeds when we visited the Bay Area Discovery Museum with the grandbabies last April.  I find the star and cross shapes in the middle so charming, I just had to photograph them.

Day 188- Nutmeg

Today’s topic is spice.

Here’s some whole nutmeg, purchased a while ago in order to make Carol’s delicious butternut squash soup. After today’s shoot, I grated some of the nutmeg into my coffee- YUM!

This was shot with my 85mm macro at 1600 ISO. The white is just my kitchen counter- no set-up needed.

Day 186- Good Morning!

Happy Fourth of July!

I’ve posted flag photos before and don’t plan on photographing fireworks, so I’m going with the Flickr theme today- energy. Nothing like a Starbucks and some computer time to get me energized for the day. . .

BTW, you might notice there is a red, white, and blue thing going on in this photo as well. . .

Day 185- I do, I will

It will be forty-one years next week.

The theme today is ring- and I chose the vows we made as the backdrop for my wedding ring. Episcopalians, take note: it’s the 1928 Book of Common Prayer.

Photography note: I used my speedlight today, so that I could have a fairly wide depth of field for this macro. The aperture was f/14.  I hadn’t used my flash since starting the photography class in April (not allowed), and it was comforting to not have to be concerned about getting enough light onto the subject.

Day 184- Blue

It was a busy day- my Heart Math group, friends over to knit, and then our book club. When Barbara and Kathryn showed up with bright blue polish on their toes, I was happy to take a quick shot of their matching toes for today’s theme (FOOT).

Day 181- Feather Dance

I sat outside waiting for my fine-feathered friends to fly in for a photoshoot today, because today the theme is, indeed, feather.  I finally gave up, and came in for lunch, only to find on the floor a tiny feather which had worked its way out of a couch cushion.  I set it on the cabinet by the open (for natural light) front door, but the breeze caused it to dance and skitter around on the surface.  I managed to capture these images of the dancing feather with my trusty macro lens.

Day 179- Stash

Here is a very small part of my “stash”, what knitters call the mountain of yarn we accumulate as a result of our obsession with yarn.  My photography obsession has overtaken my knitting obsession, but lately I am finding my fingers itching to knit again.  This photograph was taken in response to today’s theme, over and under– and features this beautiful Senegalese basket given to me by a student a few years ago.

Yes, I did move the yarn into the sun for the photo- and out of the sun afterward, in case you were wondering.
