Sunlight broke through the fog and rain clouds, illuminating some of the waters of Kachemak Bay as cars and trucks began heading out the Homer Spit last summer. After a day and a half of rain, the sun was a welcome sight!

FYI this is a composite of several photographs (the road is Perkinsville Road, the house is from Bodie, the pumpkins were from the grocery store, the Halloween elements were shot on Mt. Vernon Street, and the moon is, well. . . the moon!}. There are several textures laid on top, and the bats are photoshop brushes. Fun to create- hope you enjoy it!
The Seasons Collide
On our last trip up to Flagstaff, we experienced two seasons in less than 24 hours! This is the morning after the huge snowstorm/thunderstorm which kept waking us up during the night. The snow was still lightly falling when I took this photo.
October Still Life
We had our first assignment in my reorganized photo group. The challenge was “Unusual Light Source”- meaning no flashes, LED lights and no sun. We had to use other sources of light. I had no interest in this topic, but, being a rule follower, I set up this still life, focused my camera and took the shot by candlelight at night.
Although I went into the challenge kicking and screaming, I ended up taking a more creative, fun photo before I took this one and took both to my photo group. I am not posting it online, but will show it to friends upon request. 🙂
Aspens in the Round
Another photo from Aspen Corner- this time from our second trip this month. It was mid-to-late afternoon, the sun was shining brightly, and the wind was just beginning to pick up, heralding the snowstorm to come.
Notes: Those are my husband’s fingers (I am not coordinated enough to hold the camera and glass ball at the same time- and I didn’t bring my tripod)! And this image won third place at my photo club this month!
Ocean Portal
Here is the latest in my series, Beach Ladies. I always love taking photographs underneath the pier- and when I saw a potential beach lady walk under, I just had to photograph her.
Surfer Girl
We spent a few hours at Huntington Beach, which has just been reopened after the oil spill. As always, we were transfixed by the surfing action, and I especially enjoyed watching the girls as they rode the waves.
The Turning
We have just returned from an overnight to Flagstaff, where we visited Aspen Corner in sunshine one day and in snow the next. The image above is from our previous visit; newer images will be posted after I have time to process them. Autumn has fully arrived- and Winter is on its way!
Aspen Glow
Here is yet another image from our last trip up to Flagstaff. We are hoping to get up there again this week; there’s a chance of snow, so fingers crossed!
Fall Forest
As we walked on the path through the trees, the sun started peeking through the clouds, creating spots of sunlight among the aspens on this overcast day. We are hoping for good weather next week when we make the trek up to Flagstaff once more on our quest for fall color.
People Were Here
When starting our walk at Aspen Corner, we saw indications that others had been there before us.
Flecks of Gold
Golden aspen leaves stood out among the green as we wandered along a path in Flagstaff last week. We are looking forward to a return trip in a couple weeks- fingers crossed we see them at their peak!
Not Yet
We had heard that the aspens were beginning to turn up at Flagstaff, so we headed up there yesterday to see what we could see. As you can tell from the photo, there are signs that Fall is on its way, but we will have to make a return trip to see the aspens in all their glory. Have I mentioned that Fall is my favorite season?
On a Summer’s Day
It is Fall now, but on a summer’s day a few weeks ago. we stood and watched the cormorants as they basked in the sunshine.
