It’s Macro Monday- and the theme of my Flickr group today is danger. I took a macro shot of a chef’s knife as a response to the theme, although I was really thinking about the stabbing scenes in Psycho or Play Misty for Me– and not chopping vegetables as this photo would suggest.
Day 291- Stretching it?
I found some beautiful fall leaves yesterday at school and brought some home for a future photo shoot. I’ve been under the weather since my flu shot Monday so decided to take the easy route and photograph the leaves today (ignoring today’s theme, which is ODD). I took a test shot with my 50mm to see if I could get enough detail in the leaves without having to put on my macro lens and ended up liking the test shot better than the ones I did outside. The bokeh does look ODD, don’t you think? Kind of like a necklace? It’s from the cut glass dish I had set the leaves in when I brought them home. Since it is an odd pairing, I submitted it to the Flickr group. Stretching it? Probably. . .
Day 288- Check- and check!
My first nod to Halloween!
The theme today is dualism: made of two parts. I had decided to finally get out some Halloween decorations today and discovered that I indeed had something made of two parts. Two items checked off the to-do list! I used a Florabella texture on this one- at 100%, almost no other editing- and done in record time! 🙂
Day 285- Natural Texture
Day 284- Pine Cone
Day 283- Arts and Crafts
Day 282- Basket
Desperate to come up with a photo idea, I finally set myself a task: take a series of photos of one still life from different angles. I grabbed a Longaberger basket, which, during the course of my photo session, I discovered has a signature and date on the rim. I used my 85mm in my favorite afternoon light- on my kitchen table by the window. I ended up liking so many that I made a collage in Lightroom (easy as pie!).
Day 276- Beginning
I love beginning a new book- especially one by an author that is new to me. This month my book club is reading The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach. I admit to a few misgivings about this one, because it’s about baseball. I like going to baseball games and watching baseball movies, but I’m not so sure about reading a baseball story. I’ve heard this one is excellent- I’ll be starting it later today. Watch for my review on Goodreads! 🙂
Day 271- In the Kitchen
I love my new Fiesta dishes! Years ago when I first started collecting Blue Ridge Pottery, I fell in love with the Fiesta pitcher (but, out of loyalty to Blue Ridge, never bought one). A week or so ago, my husband surprised me with a red Fiesta pitcher to go with our new dishes. I have a feeling this is only the beginning. . .
In the kitchen is one of the themes this week for Our Daily Challenge on Flickr. My new Fiesta pitcher- and salt and pepper shakers- are in the background.
Day 266- Everyday
Day 265- w h i t e
One of the themes in my Flickr group is white this week. Although I gravitate to bright colors, I think there is something special about white. I gathered a few white objects from the futon room, craft room, junk room (depending on whom you ask. . .) to compose this simple image.
I slightly desaturated the photo and added a layer of Kim’s lightpaper texture at a low opacity.
Day 264- Good Morning!
Good Morning! I couldn’t pass up breakfast as the theme today- the promise of getting breakfast AND my photoshoot accomplished early in the day?- of COURSE!
This is a pretty typical breakfast- toast or cereal, that’s me! I tend to either read or sit at the computer while I eat. The table seemed more photoworthy today- that’s the ninth Maisie Dobbs, Elegy for Eddie, sitting by my place.
Please note the new Fiestaware in the photo! We decided to replace our old, scratched everyday dishes with colorful Fiesta, which I have always loved. There was a great sale at Macy’s, and we bought 4 place settings- and ordered 4 more. The new dishes came right away, but had a chip on one piece, and scratches on one piece out of each of the other 3 boxes. So we have to return them, alas. Just another glitch in a week dominated by another major car repair for the Subaru (long, sad story. . .).
Day 263- (sun)Glass(es)
The theme today is glass. Of course, a strict interpreter of the topic would note that my sunglasses aren’t made of glass- but I would argue that a)glass is part of the word, sunglasses, b) the sunglasses are sitting on a glass surface (I think), and c) there is a glass mirror and a glass window reflected in the sunglasses.
I played with the image a bit in Color Efex Pro to make it more striking.
