Dahlia Dahliciousness

Another dahlia image, this time in black and white with some split toning

My Faves

Dahlias from the Farmer’s Market!

A Different Look

The heavy monsoon rains have brought an amazing array of wildflowers and grasses to Willow Lake this year, creating a different look from previous summers. I don’t know what these pink flowers are (someone will tell me), but they were everywhere.

We went out a couple times last week (me balancing trekking poles and camera and backpack), and each time my photo shoot was curtailed by thunderstorms.  I hear that monsoon season is over now, but I’m not counting on it!

Hello, Yellow!

A cheery sight at the Alaska Botanical Garden in Anchorage:

Calla

I love how the Lensbaby Velvet 56 produces a painterly image straight out of camera! I added a low opacity texture on the background- but that’s just because I can never leave well enough alone.

Lensbaby Lavender

Just having fun with the Velvet 56 and the lavender in the front porch pot. . .

Summer Bouquet

another shot of just the flowers from last week’s still life

White on White on White

A little multiple exposure fun with my Lensbaby Velvet 56

Green

One of our most memorable excursions in Homer was a hike through the nature preserve, a verdant and lush forest area, which is home to bear and moose (it IS Alaska. . .). In fact we saw a moose before we turned into the parking area. We were told not to go down the animal trails (us? no way!) and to stay on the paths. The path that began as a flat board walk quickly turned to uneven ground with tree roots every 8-12 inches. It took a week or so for my knees and feet to recover- but it was all worth it.

There were ferns and wildflowers everywhere- and it was so GREEN! I put my Lensbaby on my camera and had a great time shooting wildflowers (and yes, even dandelions). I’ll post more another day!

Fireweed Impressions

Fireweed had just begun its bloom when we were in Alaska. I used a slow shutter speed with my iPhone to create this impressionist style image.

Last one. . .

This image went into Photoshop for some textures. And here ends my week of sunflowers!

A different style

I’m a fan of sunflowers in black and white. I added some split toning to the shadows in this one.

Just one

Another version with just one sunflower

Sunflowers on a Chair

It’s Sunflower Week! It’s been awhile since I’ve done a still life. I thought my white chair was calling out for some sunflowers- so here we are! I took probably 15 photos and edited them in different ways. I just did a quick Lightroom edit on this one.

Two Times Three

A multiple exposure edited two ways. I like the black and white best. 🙂
