Day 320- P U R P L E

What to photograph?????

Well, the theme is purple, it’s lunchtime, so here we go . . .

Confession:  my yogurt wasn’t purple today. It was pink (strawberry banana).  So I changed it in Lightroom.  Shhhh- don’t tell Flickr!

Day 273- Dessert

Today’s theme is dessert. I don’t have anything except chocolate covered almonds left over from a get-together the other night- so they will have to do. They are dark chocolate, which is actually a health food.  So… life is short, eat dessert first!

Day 201- Sur la Table

On the table was yesterday’s theme.  Photographing myself eating a salad lunch seemed like an easy idea- until I tried it.  The tripod was set up in the kitchen from a shoot from last week, so, when I realized I couldn’t hold the camera and the fork AND press the shutter, while keeping it all in focus, I used the tripod.  Even so, it was a bit tricky getting the focus right, because I wanted a shallow depth of field.

FYI the bokeh is coming from the clear glass salad plate.

Day 188- Nutmeg

Today’s topic is spice.

Here’s some whole nutmeg, purchased a while ago in order to make Carol’s delicious butternut squash soup. After today’s shoot, I grated some of the nutmeg into my coffee- YUM!

This was shot with my 85mm macro at 1600 ISO. The white is just my kitchen counter- no set-up needed.

Day 166- Delicious

I’m taking it easy today, because of a sore knee- so I didn’t go with Lonnie to the Farmers’ Market.  He came home with some delicious berries, which made choosing a photo subject very easy.  This was edited for a slight increase in contrast, clarity, and vibrance- and some noise reduction since it was shot at ISO 1100. I used the Expodisc, and no white balance adjustment was needed!

Day 51- Empty vs Full

Empty is the topic for today’s photo.

We’re celebrating Lonnie’s birthday tonight finally, because Matt is here! So here is an empty cupcake wrapper.

And here is a finished German Chocolate/Chocolate Chip cupcake, ready for tonight’s birthday dinner.

Day 38- Rainy day flowers. . .and a berry

Hurray for rainy days- the first in a LONG time!  I doubt we have had an inch, but I know we need it.  The theme for yesterday was water, so I went out with the intention of capturing some raindrops on flowers.

Raindrops on a geranium bud

I got distracted by the stamens on my azalea blossoms and ended up focusing on them rather than the water drops.

I submitted yesterday’s blackberry photo to my Flickr critique group for the topic, negative space. It was criticized for not having enough negative space, for the negative space being white, for not showing the whole berry, and for having a shallow depth of field (which was a deliberate choice I made for that image).

I went back and found this photo from yesterday which I do like, except I don’t like the shape of the berry.  I submitted this one to the group- the jury is still out. . .

Day 37- Macroberry

I’m back on track with Macro Monday. This was an easy one- the blackberry left in the bowl. The only decision beyond white balance was depth of field.  I chose a shallow DOF for this one; only the top is in focus. Oh- and another choice I made was to go with a high ISO, allowing any grain present after noise reduction to just BE.

Day 5- Enmeshed

Having to post daily photos does strange things to one’s sense of perception!  An uninspiring visit to the waterfront this morning left me with nothing I wanted to use for my blog, but, as I was unpacking my groceries later, I became entranced by the curves and changing patterns of my oranges in their mesh bag. Seriously.

I decided that this year I wouldn’t post my camera settings unless they were interesting or unusual.  They were unusual for me today.  The oranges and mesh were so reflective that I had an issue with getting enough detail.  I finally turned the kitchen light off and shot away from any window light- thus needing a 13 second exposure.  In post-processing, I decreased luminance even more.
