This is one of the most amazing areas of Petrified Forest National Park- the gradations of color are gorgeous! To get this shot, I had to fight bad knees and high winds as I set up my tripod in different positions along the trail- and just the trail at the top, mind you. I wish I had started this whole photography thing when I was younger!

Although the flower season is always comparatively late here (“Don’t plant until after Mother’s Day!), blossoms have started to appear on the trees- always a welcome sign of Spring. Our plum tree has just a few- just enough show us that Spring is on its way.
I decided that I should to go out to take snowy pictures when it is actually snowing if I wanted to capture the diffused light and soft palette that I like so much (and miss in Arizona). So Lonnie and I drove to Watson Lake for today’s photo and then had a great time trudging around in the snow at Willow Lake until the snowflakes stopped. Yes, I got a few shots that were blurred by falling snow, but I got a lot of keepers too. And within a couple hours most of the snow was gone.

The light shining through the pine needles was what caused me to snap this photo; it looks like fall, but was just golden light.
I did it!
In yesterday’s photo class, we were told exactly where to go (across town on a hill) to get a view of the eclipsing moon, which would be very low on the horizon. Lonnie suggested that we might be able to just see it from the hill at the back of our property, so we decided to set our alarm and see if, by any chance, we could see the moon from our own backyard. When the alarm went off, I staggered over to the window and there was the moon!
I shot many photos right from the backyard, but then carried the tripod with my big lens up our hill and took more photos from the top. I didn’t realize what a spectacular view we have of the night sky up there! There won’t be any more Super Blue Blood Moon Lunar Eclipses to photograph, but there are zillions of stars!

Saturday morning’s wintry mix (did the Weather Channel invent that term???) gave way to overcast skies, which finally dumped a layer of snow Saturday evening. Of course I took a few photos on the way to the grocery store on Sunday morning!
Willow Lake
No, we haven’t had more snow (although it is predicted on Saturday), but here is another view from the same vantage point as my last post, just turning my camera to the left a bit.
We had snow Tuesday night which gave us maybe an inch yesterday morning. I was out with my camera as soon as I got up, because I knew it wouldn’t last- and it didn’t. Here’s a view of the path leading from Watson Lake to Watson Woods, a pretty scene.
