It’s a cold, low energy kind of day around here. Looking up, I saw a nice composition in nature, snapped it, and textured it for today’s photo of the day. It doesn’t match a theme for any group, and it’s not a macro shot for Macro Monday- but that’s okay.
Day 364- One more day!
Day 355- Cold, Foggy, and Bleak
For today’s topic, transportation, my husband and I went down to the waterfront, hoping to capture tugboats escorting a tanker through the fog, or perhaps a fishing boat. However, it was such a foggy morning that we could only see the water by the shore. I ended up snapping some photos of sailboats at the marina and adding a little texture to give some contrast to this bleak image.
Day 344- Red, White and Blue
Day 331- R is for Railroad
The Flickr group challenge of the day was to photograph something starting with the letter R. I set out on this foggy morning to photograph the refinery, but the fog obscured much of the view. While driving around the area, back and forth over the train tracks, I remembered that railroad started with R! I used a sepia treatment and some texture to give the photo a vintage look.

But this afternoon, I decided to play some more- and did an HDR version. Which one do you like best?
Day 308- Pointed
The Subaru had to go in for servicing in today, so, while we were waiting, my husband and I drove around looking for things that were pointed, today’s Flickr group challenge. I took photos of roofs, gazebos, Mt. Diablo, fence pickets, and even my husband pointing at me (I posted that one to the group- loved it!). I am choosing this bird (with a pointed beak) on a street lamp as my photo of the day, with a little texture added for no good reason (except I felt like playing with Photoshop).

Day 298- Going Green
This is one of those uninspired days. Thank goodness for Texture Tuesday and for Flickr topics- otherwise I would be even blanker than I am right now! One of the ODC topics this week is Going Green, so I took some photos of the green leaves in our yard and textured them with one layer of Kim Klassen’s cool grunge and another layer of peacock.
Day 292- White Pumpkins
White pumpkins! I don’t remember when I started seeing these in stores, but this year I bought three. The below is actually a macro shot; they are actually mini pumpkins. I only took two photos and chose the second, so I really haven’t had my fill of white pumpkin photography yet. Don’t be surprised if more white pumpkin images appear in the blog over the next week!
f/22, 1.3 sec., ISO 160, 85mm
I added two of Kim Klassen’s textures to this photo: tattered (2 layers) and just white.
Day 290- Colors
The colors in the web are what attracted me to this photo. I was trying to quickly find some colored leaves this morning for a macro shot, but noticed the web. I added a texture because. . .well, the photo needed rescuing! There were blown highlights I couldn’t recover- so I filled them in with texture. I love Photoshop!
Day 289- Chimes
Day 284- Red!
I’m suffering from leaf envy right now looking at the beautiful fall foliage photos (there’s some alliteration for you. . .) on Flickr (more alliteration!- I’ve been teaching phonics to first graders today). There are some colorful trees in our town, but nothing compared to the photos I’m seeing online.
I found some leaves at my school today (where I volunteer, now that I have retired) and use one as the subject of today’s photo. It’s Texture Tuesday with a RED theme, so I added a layer of Kim Klassen’s grunged texture. Check out Kim’s Cafe for some gorgeous texture work.
Day 256- Last One
My ODC Flickr group’s latest challenge is “with a flower on it.” My first thought was dishes. My Blue Ridge and my china definitely are flower decorated- but I have photographed them for this blog several times. So I wandered out on the deck this morning to see if there were any flowers left that I actually have not featured on this blog.
I think I found one. One exactly! The last geranium on the plant, alas.
Because it is Texture Tuesday (and because I like it this way), I added 2 texture layers (Kim’s bent edges and canvasback). I played around with the image for awhile and decided to change the whole thing to a black and white. I’m not sure if that is supposed to work well with textures, but I like the effect.
I think I will be photographing dead leaves next. . .
Day 254- Ten Years
Day 252- Spoons
My grandmother collected coffee spoons- those little spoons you see on sale at tourist shops everywhere. When I was a little girl, I was fascinated with them. They are all different, and most are over a hundred years old. The one in the foreground is from the 1892 Chicago’s World Fair, the Columbian Exposition, celebrating the 400th anniversary of Columbus’s arrival in America. I think her mother must have bought it, since Mimi would have only been four years old at the time.
I used a sepia tone and texture in the processing of this photo.
Day 249- Follow the arrows!
I volunteered at my old school again today, working with students on letter formation- a traditional beginning of first grade emphasis. It is soooo much fun working with small groups or individual students and not having the responsibility of the whole class! I love it!
As I was finishing up, I remembered that one of the challenges in ODC (the Flickr group I recently joined) was “arrow”- a subject I had no interest in photographing. But there they were on the worksheet right in front of me- arrows! I whipped out my camera and took TWO photographs- and TWO photographs only! This is a record for my 365 Project- I have never taken so few in one day. Maybe soon it can be ONE! 🙂
It is Texture Tuesday- and the task was to use at least one layer of Kim’s new crackerjack texture. I used two- one with multiply blend mode and one with soft light. I also used a golden fill layer to warm things up a bit. Follow the link to Kim Klassen’s Cafe to see some beautiful photographs using this texture.
