On the Rookery Path

Here’s another view of the path we took through the rookery area of Willow Lake. If you look very closely you can glimpse the Dells across the lake- way in the background.

Oh… so lovely Melinda! Those are the trees of my youth! They formed groves all along the ditches and creeks in Ord Bend where I grew up and riparian forests along the Sacramento River where I played with my friends(when there was free time): pirates on the island, indians! the only humans left in the world…. games of freedom! We imagined ourselves this way, away from our ranches and farms because for a few hours, we were free from all the chores and tasks we had. Then, puberty filled us with lust for the few boys we had in our school and in 7th grade our games along the creeks and in the willowy woods along the river changed.
