While everyone around us was watching the hummingbirds at the feeders, I happened to turn around and spot this little guy on the pole behind the group. He looked at me, I looked at him. He was very cute! My bird app tells me he was a white-breasted nuthatch.

We have several pairs nesting in our yard. They seem to like hanging upside down❤️

We love our smaller Red-Breasted Nuthatches. They are always in the woods here and our home is IN the woods. So the morning chorus always has their WANK-WANK! and among all the warbling and chirping and fluting, the little Nuthatches seem like the kid dragged in off the street corner carrying his buckets and barrels and jugs to add that little urban proletariat sound to the symphony 🙂 To add to that, they skitter around, up and down HEADFIRST on the big bark-y trees. They are the kid who wouldn’t be quiet in class but was so endearing 😊
