Playing fast and loose with the word, photography, I’ve had some fun playing with some of my older photos, turning them into painting-like images. Here’s that same sailboat from a week ago- with a different crop and edited with filters and textures.
And here’s a duck meet-and-greet down at the Benicia waterfront.
My friend, Debbie, has talent. Actually talents- many talents. I try not to be jealous.
This week she asked me to photograph some of her art work, especially some pieces she will be putting in a show (the turtle- upper left and the jewelry- far right). She has been taking classes in jewelry making and pottery since she retired, and now has added metal sculpture (the turtle, which is big, BTW). Look closely and notice that the earrings and necklace are made from old salt and pepper shakers in addition to the crystals!
Debbie also crochets, knits, sews, paints, and does zentangle among other things.
Here’s a pullback (is that what it’s called?) so you can see the setup for the photography. Nope, this isn’t my setup; she also has a tabletop studio photography kit complete with lights! Jackson is enjoying it in this photo!

My tulips are gone, but the ferns remain. Time to get out the macro lens!
After having seen many versions of the tulip bouquet from Aryn and Jason’s wedding reception, you might be interested in seeing a few photos of the bride and groom. The couple actually got married in November (11/12/13!) in the Netherlands, and this is their first trip back to the states as a married couple. Most of the photos were taken during the dinner, but I managed to grab the bride and groom for a couple shots in the old western bar afterwards.
Although the photos I gave the family are in color, I am such a fan of black and white that I chose to convert them to black and white today for the blog.
Alas- this may be the last appearance of these beautiful tulips from Aryn and Jason’s wedding reception. I shot this photo looking down at the bouquet, in keeping with this week’s Texture Tuesday theme, from above.

Playing a bit with intentional camera movement (ICM) and some texture . . .
When we lived in Benicia, I photographed the waterfront fairly often and would almost always take shots of and through the grasses (anise?) along the shore. When we visited last month, I found myself making almost the same shots. And here in Arizona, I do the same thing; there is something about grasses and weeds that call out to be photographed-at least by me. This one was taken in Benicia; in fact, there is a sailboat in the background!

Gorgeous red and white tulips decorated the tables at the party given by our friends, Debbie and Dale to celebrate their daughter, Aryn’s marriage to Jason. The young couple currently live in Holland, so tulips were definitely the perfect choice. I had fun being the photographer for the event and managed to have a lot of fun while taking photos. Debbie gave me one of the arrangements to take home, so of course they will be making several appearances on the blog!
Sometimes, it’s fun to just capture the lines or shapes in your surroundings. I took the first two shots behind the Sam Hill warehouse near the railroad bridge I photographed last week (it’s the fence surrounding the power company). The third photo was taken walking down steps of the old warehouse, which is now part of Prescott College.
It’s Texture Tuesday, so here’s a collection of photos I took last week of my baby’s breath bouquet (which is still going strong). I used Kim Klassen’s anna texture to edit each image.
I am so attracted to out of focus and ICM (intentional camera movement) images; I’ve done quite a bit, but haven’t put many on the blog. So- just for fun- I took this deliberately out of focus shot of the same bouquet, applied one of the artistic filters in Photoshop, and added a grunged up version of Kim’s dollard texture.
As part of my exploration of Prescott, I visited the old railroad bridge, which is no longer in use. I took several photos and decided I like the bridge best in black and white.
Learning a bit about my new town is a big part of a personal photography project I am undertaking. My plan is to photograph buildings and/or areas in Prescott, a town with a rich and interesting history. I have been taking photos since I moved here, but now I am doing it with the intention of making a collection, eventually a gallery slideshow on my blog.
Yesterday, I chose to photograph the courthouse with a view of the Thumb Butte behind it. I took the photo on a hill (which I’ve read is called Nob Hill) standing just down from the Goldwater House.
I considered Photoshopping the wires out, but decided against it for the sake of authenticity- but may reconsider. There are wires obstructing almost every view in this town- perhaps they add to the character!
And below is the Goldwater House, built by Henry Goldwater (uncle to Barry) in 1894.
