Day 242- Entertainment

Today’s theme is entertainment.  After just a moment’s thought, I conceived of this image- a remote with bokeh.

AND. . . I knew just how to achieve it!

Alas, it is not a matter of me knowing just the perfect lens and shutter settings combined with fabulous light streaming in a window.

The backstory: The other day, while shopping for something else, I saw a little string of battery powered LED lights.  Did I think holiday centerpieces? No, I thought BOKEH!

So, this photo was quickly taken with the LED lights behind the remote.

Here is a bonus photo from yesterday. Yesterday morning, I only looked at the last two shots I took of the waterdrop on the flower, because that’s when I used the tripod.  When I went on the computer last night, I discovered that the first (handheld!) shots were actually clearer.  In this shot, I am reflected in the drop. I did a black and white conversion just because. . .

Day 230- Low Carb/Schmo Carb

I have been going through my low carb cookbooks trying to get inspired.  I feel better and am definitely more healthy the more I stick to a low carb diet (and when I exercise).  Arthritis in my knees, hips, and feet has been my excuse for not exercising as diligently lately- and I have been very bored with my low carb diet.  The Shutter Sisters prompt today was cooking, which I certainly do- but I decided to focus on the low carb issue for this photo.  I chose these cookbooks, because the bottom one is 15 minute recipes (yay!)- and the top one has photos of wine and chocolate chip cookies on the cover (double yay!).  Please note that the cookbooks are placed next to the microwave, because some days (okay, MOST days) I just want to get the cooking over with and move on to the eating!

Day 229 Tabletop

Tabletop photography is the topic for today in my Flickr group, Our Daily Challenge.  I could swear this basket was made by Shakers or some other very American group, but it was, not surprisingly, made in China.

Day 227- Texture Tuesday

The theme for this Texture Tuesday over at Kim Klassen’s Cafe is Look Down.  The photo was taken looking down at the edge of my tub this morning.  It is textured with two layers of Kim’s subtlely yours, both using soft light, the second at 50% with some masking.  Two notes- I used my flash (it was just too dark at 7:00 a.m.), and I “stretched the canvas” using free transform, because I didn’t want the edge of the tub to show (and I actually knew I was going to do that when I took the photo!).

Day 224- Open

I’m sure I’ve written about my favorite piece of furniture before- the one hundred year old mahogany dental cabinet that belonged to my father.  It sits by the front door and holds drawerfuls of family memories- as well as some old liqueur glasses behind the little glass doors above.  I took this photo for today’s Flickr topic- open.

Day 221- Pattern

Pattern is the topic for today. The tablecloth I had placed under my mums for my photo from the other day is still sitting out, and the pattern in the lace caught my eye.  I used my fabulous 50mm 1.4 to capture this shot.

Day 218- Words of Life

I never knew my father’s grandfather. Rev. Andrew J. Mowatt or had even heard of him when I started researching our family history about twenty years ago.  Thomas and Elizabeth Mowatt came to Harvey, New Brunswick, Canada in 1837 from Ford, England (near the Scottish border).  My great-grandfather, Andrew was born a year later, the oldest of seven children.  He was educated in Nova Scotia (and married my great-grandmother, Louisa Jane Annand there) and served as pastor in several churches, his final one being Erskine Church in Montreal. He actually died in the pulpit as he was about to preach from the text, “When I saw Him I fell at His feet as one dead”.

When I was researching the family, I came into contact with a researcher from Harvey, New Brunswick who had already completed research on the Harvey pioneers.  She very kindly sent me this book, which is the collected sermons of my great-grandfather.

This image is edited with one of Kim Klassen’s textures, appropriately called broken book.

Day 213- All One Color

It is Texture Tuesday! I have been out of the Texture Tuesday habit for awhile, and it is so fun to see what everyone else has been up to! Go to Kim Klassen’s site to see some beautiful images using her textures!

This one also satisfies Our Daily Challenge for the topic, all one colour.

I used Kim’s textures, mixed media and just white.

Day 197- Taking Care of Business

I haven’t been keeping up with the Flickr challenges lately, so this morning I searched for something in the house that would fit the topic, keeping it clean, AND would also be something that I have never photographed (a much harder challenge). I was delighted to discover that I have never photographed paper towels!

We had an early dinner with friends, and I brought my camera just in case they had a dog (starts with D), so here is the adorable Missy, who was only too happy to pose for me knowing that she might just get a treat afterwards!

Day 186- Good Morning!

Happy Fourth of July!

I’ve posted flag photos before and don’t plan on photographing fireworks, so I’m going with the Flickr theme today- energy. Nothing like a Starbucks and some computer time to get me energized for the day. . .

BTW, you might notice there is a red, white, and blue thing going on in this photo as well. . .
