Sunny and Cold

The sun came out for awhile last weekend, but it was still cold as I ventured out to my studio (AKA garage) for a photo session. I opened the garage door for natural light, set what was left of my latest Trader Joe’s bouquet on some bead board, and had fun with my Edge 80 for as long as I could stand the cold. I tilted the lens down and to the left, focusing on the scissors for this shot. I liked the result and added texture to the image for Texture Tuesday.

Hydrangea!

I felt like I hit the jackpot at Trader Joe’s yesterday when I found they had hydrangeas! I’m always on the lookout for them and even ask for them, but I always hear “Oh we just had them” or “I think we should have some next week.”  So despite being a bit under the weather, I headed out to my garage “studio” and played with my macro lens.

Have a Heart!

The soundtrack for this blog post is Bonnie Raitt’s Have a Heart (can’t get it out of my head- and I love her!).

Did you see the heart?

Linking up with Friday Finds today.

And for your listening pleasure. . .

This version is less up-tempo than the the one in my head- but it’s Bonnie!  And any song that begins with “Hey, shut up!” certainly gets my attention!

Lavender ICM

I’m fascinated by intentional camera movement (ICM) and the often abstract images resulting. It is harder than it looks, and I have yet to find the right combination of subject, settings, and movement to produce what I am trying to create.  There is always an element of surprise, which makes it fun.

Here are two shots of lavender from my front yard, created by using slow shutter speeds and moving the camera.

Still summer

Knowing the time for flowers is limited as the days grow shorter and autumn approaches, I picked a bloom from the bed out front and took a few photos.

Both of these images have a layer of Kim Klassen’s chill texture.  The bottom one had the paint daubs filter applied (twice!) before adding the texture.

Prairie Sunflowers

Prairie sunflowers! At our monthly photography club meeting last week, I learned that the Flagstaff area is blanketed with prairie sunflowers in August and September.  Bonito Park, north of Flagstaff, is a particularly photogenic spot as it sits between Sunset Crater and the San Francisco Peaks.  My husband and I headed up there on Saturday and found it lives up to its reputation.

Here is the meadow with Sunset Crater in the background.

Looking the other direction, I photographed the sunflowers with the San Francisco peaks behind them.
