After thirty years of teaching, I can’t look at this photo without thinking of a class of first graders all raising their hands for a turn!

I knew that today’s post would have at least one photo from my field trip to the Desert Botanical Garden. “For the love of . . . ” is the topic for this week’s Texture Tuesday, and, when I looked through my images, Sheryl Crow’s Soak Up the Sun started going through my head. Think of it as the soundtrack for these two photos!
These cacti must have been at least 15 feet tall. I used a small aperture, intending to get a starburst effect- but this is what happened. And I think I like it better this way!
This bird was perched at the top of one of the cacti. And how about the sun in this photo? Did I add it in post-processing? No- it’s actually flare from the sun on my right. Usually I clone those out. . .
Both photos have layers of an altered version of Kim’s ruemarion texture as well as kkcanvasback. The bottom one also has some magic textures in there.
Snow!!! After our teaser snowstorm in December, we waited and waited for more. Now that I am wearing capris and a sunhat, the weather surprised us yesterday afternoon with more snow.
My husband and I are still such Prescott newbies that we got in the car and drove around to see what snow was like in each part of town. Nothing seemed to be sticking, but big flakes were coming down fast almost everywhere we went.
Downtown Whiskey Row:
We drove past my friend, Debbie’s house, because she lives in the pines at a slightly higher elevation and usually gets more snow than we do. Sure enough, the snow was sticking to the tree branches and the ground in some places.
I edited another photo of Sedona’s Bell Rock for this week’s Texture Tuesday. This one was taken from partway up (which is about as far as I got), and is edited with two layers of Kim’s canvasback (color burn blend mode) and a couple “magic” textures. Happy April (no foolin’ )!
We took the boys (along with their parents) on a picnic and hike at a city park which has trails overlooking the town. Henry and Miles lead the way and were triumphant reaching the point where we would start back down to the parking lot.
Here they are leading the way; that’s Granite Mountain in the background. I added a Jessica Drossin texture to this one to add some color and depth.
And here is my favorite photo of the day- the boys at the top of the trail.
Today’s Texture Tuesday theme is QUIET.
Hmmmm…… there hasn’t been much quiet around here lately due to the presence of two rambunctious little boys- UNLESS they are asleep. I took some photos of Henry asleep in the car and used a much more heavy hand than usual when adding textures. I used two layers of Kim’s 1612 at multiply mode (brushed off face) and then added a grunge texture from my Photoshop Artistry class.
Linking up with Texture Tuesday.
Playing fast and loose with the word, photography, I’ve had some fun playing with some of my older photos, turning them into painting-like images. Here’s that same sailboat from a week ago- with a different crop and edited with filters and textures.
And here’s a duck meet-and-greet down at the Benicia waterfront.
Alas- this may be the last appearance of these beautiful tulips from Aryn and Jason’s wedding reception. I shot this photo looking down at the bouquet, in keeping with this week’s Texture Tuesday theme, from above.
Textured with Kim Klassen’s “simple” texture.
It’s Texture Tuesday, so here’s a collection of photos I took last week of my baby’s breath bouquet (which is still going strong). I used Kim Klassen’s anna texture to edit each image.
I am so attracted to out of focus and ICM (intentional camera movement) images; I’ve done quite a bit, but haven’t put many on the blog. So- just for fun- I took this deliberately out of focus shot of the same bouquet, applied one of the artistic filters in Photoshop, and added a grunged up version of Kim’s dollard texture.
I took this photo for Texture Tuesday and then realized there is a THEME- still. I’m not sure this photo represents still, but it is a still life.
Textured with sybil by Kim Klassen.
I’ve got that Happy song by Pharrell Williams going through my head (it was in my Facebook feed this morning)- a great way to start the day! If you know it, sing (clap!) along as you look at these two photos from our walk at Willow Lake earlier in the week. I know that going on this walk certainly made me happy, as did remembering how to add a frame on each photo!
I used two of Kim Klassen’s textures in both: bien and daisy.
We spent a few hours in Benicia on our California trip last week- long enough for me to visit the waterfront and take a few photos.
The photo below is of boats at the Yacht Club, with the refinery towers looming in background. I edited this in Photoshop, using a filter to “posterize” the image and adding one of the free Flypaper textures from Adobe Exchange.
This is your basic Benicia waterfront photo, edited in Lightroom.
