Roses- and Moonlit Wind Turbines

My Mother’s Day flowers came just in time- I was running out of things to photograph for a still life!  This is my favorite shot so far of the beautiful roses given to me by my husband.

Since this is App-Happy Wednesday over at Keeping with the Times, I’m also including an iPhone photo.

This week, I got a fun new (to me) app called Distressed FX; I tend to pick new apps when I see others using them on Instagram.  I confess I fell in love with the app when I saw you could add flocks of birds to your photos.  Two things about this photo: 1) the subject is wind turbines in the moonlight (I’m kind of obsessed with photographing wind turbines on road trips) and 2) I wanted to fade the texture, but couldn’t find my original to blend with it (and besides, the birds would have faded too).  I know I could have done something with Adobe Photoshop Touch, but didn’t take the time to figure it out. I have a lot to learn!

  1. Your roses really are breathtaking – I love the composition and texture. I also love your wind turbines – I did not know they could look so good! I’m going to do something similar with power poles… and DistressedFx is one of my favs – don’t know why I don’t use it more often … thanks for joining in the fun today, Melinda!

  2. Great husband that give flowers on Mother’s Day, love that and your edit, did you use the DistressedFX on that also? The thing I don’t like about that app is just what you said it is too strong sometimes and I never seem to know how to work the sliders right or it probably is just me not knowing how to use them. I do like your edit of the wind machines and the moon and birds but agree a little too strong on the texture. I have a lot to learn on that app as well and taking into another app is probably the answer to that one as you said.

    1. Thanks, Barbara! No, the first one was with my DSLR and Photoshop- definitely much more in my comfort zone!

  3. The roses are gorgeous! I love the softness of the image. The image of the wind turbines has such a painterly effect. It is beautiful.

  4. Love love love that turbine edit! You can reduce the textures within DisstressedFx. and adjust contrast and stuff. I will try and do a tutorial on that for next week if I can.

  5. I love the crop and edit on your roses! And your Distressed FX … well, you did a wonderful job. I haven’t played much with that one … all I need is more time to play with all these apps we’re sharing here at App Happy and at IG. … sigh …

  6. I love the watercolor effect . It looks you put tissue paper on the canvas and then painted on top of it….

  7. The roses are beautiful, so “soft”. The turbines is interesting! i really like the texture. I just downloaded that app too, I need to play with it more.
